August 1 “GOD SAVE AMERICA!”
Scripture: Lamentations 5:21

“The reason for our country’s decay – our economic turmoil, our social ills, the church’s coldness and apostasy from the truth, pastors in the pulpit without a backbone, citizens living in fear, the decline of our culture – is because we have departed from the one true God. We have rejected the God of our Founding Fathers. We need to pray that God will restore us to Himself.”"

August 8: A PRESCRIPTION FOR BURNED OUT CHRISTIANS
Scripture: Acts 1:6-12

“If you’re feeling burned-out, rekindle your expectation of power to be a witness, and the passion of Christ will return. When you pray for revival and awakening, just exactly what is it that you are praying for you? Evangelism is more than just giving information about Jesus; it includes making disciples who are committed to Christ for a lifetime.”

Dr. G. Henry Wells served Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church as Senior Pastor since 1985, and in 2008 retired after 34 years on staff. For many years FOPC was in the top ten churches in attendance in its denomination.

Considered by many to be the unofficial pastor of Sacramento, Dr. Wells has a passionate interest in spiritual renewal for the region. He has led citywide Concerts of Prayer and Prayer Summits, and has organized area pastors for ongoing prayer and fellowship. Dr. Wells has taken part in every major evangelistic outreach to take place locally. He was Vice President of the Billy Graham Crusade’s Executive Committee and has served similarly in the past with the Harvest Crusade, the Tony Campolo Outreach and the Sacramento Evangelistic Outreach. He served as Co-chair for the Jubilee for Jesus Christ 2000.

Evangelism was also at the heart of Henry’s ministry before his life as senior pastor: He worked with theHaggai Institute of Atlanta as Crusade Director where he traveled extensively with founder John Edmund Haggai. He is still active with the Institute in an advisory capacity.

Henry’s long list of Christian service includes other organizations such as the boards of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Law Enforcement Chaplaincy, andRelease Time Bible Class. He currently serves on the board of Youth for Christ and Love, INC.

During the first six years of their time in Sacramento, Dr. Wells served as Chaplain to theSacramento Kings. He is currently serving as the associate chaplain. He also served on the Board of Trustees for Whitworth College in Spokane, WA, and the Board of Trustees of San Francisco Theological Seminary.

He served many years on the Board of Directors for the Presbyterian Coalition. Dr. Wells has served in various positions within the Sacramento Presbytery including Moderator of the Presbytery, Vice Moderator of Presbytery, Chair of Stewardship, General Council, Nominations, commissioner from Sacramento Presbytery to the 208th General Assembly meeting in Albuquerque, and was on the Committee on Ministry.

Dr. Wells served as a member of the Board of Directors for KFIA Foundation, and was a member of Evangelical Pastors of Large Presbyterian Churches. He has hosted the Pastor to Pastor radio program on KFIA since 1994, and he was for many years a familiar voice on Sundays on KFIA with “Walking with Christ.”

Dr. Wells was recognized by William Jessup University in 2009 for “his extraordinary leadership in ministry.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Committee presented to Dr. Wells its LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD. And in the same year was also recognized by Bayside Church with a Life Time Achievement Award.

Dr. Wells was a High School All-American at Ada High School in Ada, Oklahoma. He attended Oklahoma University on a football scholarship. He attended St. Mary’s Divinity School of St. Andrews University. Scotland on a Rotary Fellowship. He received both his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from San Francisco Theological Seminary. He is married to Deborah, who teaches computer technology at a local Christian school. They have two children, Lindsey (20) and Emily (18). Dr. Wells is also a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation (American native).

I do not want to take away from the pain and loss that some of our singles and families have had to face and walk through, even this week. But together, our community is discerning “how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ” and we are ”knowing this love that surpasses all knowledge” (Ephesians 3:18-19).

Some of our families are moving. Some are going through overwhelming financial, medical, and family-life issues. No matter what, Adventure is a place where I want you to experience the love of Christ, always. Come home anytime.
Next Sunday is the beginning of our Summer Series, Too Busy Not to Pray, by Bill Hybels. Ted Rose of the National Day of Prayer will speak this Sunday, June 6th on “A Call to Prayer” and Joe Walsh, Elder at Arcade Baptist will follow on June 13th on “Praying for Our City”.
Bring your time management system this Sunday!
Yours for inspiring transformation!
Scott

It is no use walking anywhere to preach

unless our walking is our preaching.
